The Princess and the Frog (2009) – 3/5

The Princess and the Frog (2009). – 3/5

Really good all around – animation, voice acting, story, etc. Another score for Ron & John.

I love that it was on NOLA which doesn’t get enough attention for the culture and overall awesomeness that it offers.

Despite it being good all around, there wasn’t really anything (besides NOLA) that really made this movie shine above the rest.

We Own the Night 2007 – 3/5

We Own the Night 2007. – 3/5

I was tempted to give this a 4, but I have a feeling the feeling will fade pretty quickly. But this was a really good movie w/ good, tense scenes, good characters and a great tone/mood.

Waitress (2007) – 3/5

Waitress (2007). – 3/5

Sweet, cute, sad little story that doesn’t try too hard.

Great device w/ the pies… really made me want some pie too… a lot of pie.

Acted well and touching in many parts. Slightly inspiring, but not overboard.

Sadly, the Director (also writer and “Dawn” in the movie) was murdered while making this film.

The Holiday (2006) – 2/5

The Holiday (2006). – 2/5

Pretty lame all around. Weak acting especially Jude Law.

Way too cheesy, corny. Worst end scene ever… (may be just how I feel at the moment).

The Blind Side (2009) – 4/5

The Blind Side (2009). – 4/5

Choked-up count of like 10+.

Well done. I think they did a good job of playing these characters as real people but w/ the right amount of focus on certain attributes to bring out the roles.

It was sad at times and inspiring. I had to wonder “what’s the moral of the story?” I certainly don’t think it’s “you can do anything you put your mind to” or anything like that b/c I cd have never become the football player he is.

I guess it’s something along the lines of: there’s a lot of wasted or untapped potential in people. And often we need help from others, to bring it out.

The Last King of Scotland (2006) – 3/5

The Last King of Scotland (2006). – 3/5

Nice scope and well done. Fairly tense throughout which was important.

Forest Whitaker did a great job.

It was interesting to see the events unfold and they did a good job of storytelling, but when it was over, it was just over so nothing too great.

Love Actually (2003)- 2/5

Love Actually (2003). – 2/5

There were some good scenes in this movie, but all-in-all it’s pretty weak. They don’t quite build up the characters enough – and it’s all general just a bit scattered.

The body-doubles (or whatever they are) have like 3 scenes and you really don’t know or care to know them.

SPOILERS

It starts off decently and builds a bit, but then it just kinda falls flat. You see these various people in various stages of life and love: kids, older people, married people, etc.

What happens to the marriage where the husband (implied) has an affair?

The kid’s story is probably the most touching and sincere and I like that it didn’t go anywhere. Anything else wd have been cheap.

Gone with the Wind (1939) – 5/5

Gone with the Wind (1939). – 5/5

Great movie. I cdn’t help but think about how selfish and self-centered Scarlet was. She just burned through people lives left and right.

She was strong, courageous and bold, but mostly out of pride and selfishness.

Great scenes and quotes. Great move.

Inside Man (2006) – 4/5

Inside Man (2006). – 4/5

Good suspense-type mystery movie. It keeps you guessing pretty much the whole time: “Why are they doing that?” “How are they going to…?”

Solid suspense, acting, twists w/o cheese, etc.

I got this confused w/ “The Insider” so I never bothered to check it out. Glad I finally did.

SPOILER

One big question I kept coming back to was “Why did Case keep that envelope?” It seemed kinda silly that he wd have something so incriminating and he’d keep it!?!?!?

The bump Dalton gives Frazier at the end was a little weak too, but they kinda “had” to reveal to him who it was and that he got away and such. I mean, they cdn’t have just ended it w/ him not knowing. I get it.

Next (2007) – 2/5

Next (2007). – 2/5

I wanted to see this movie in the theaters, but it didn’t seem to do well. Despite that, I watched it. Disappointed, but I sdn’t be.

Cage’s characters seem to be more and more like “I’m super cool and know it.” and it comes off pretty cheesy.

SPOILERS

I can see how w/ his skills he becomes a Vegas magician. Makes sense. How he becomes this super action hero fighter doesn’t quite make as much sense. Granted, he might know what to do, but be able to do it is different.

Two things that really stood out to me as lame are…

The scene where they hold open his eyelids to watch the news in the concrete bunker, secret super lab that only Blofeld cd rival (which somehow is located in a building downtown).

Also, the scene where he sends the cops to check out the level in the factory while he checks the rest of the levels. He find the girl and one of the cops dies. Uh, why didn’t he just do that in the first place?

Then to top it all off, it basically was all a dream. :S
